We purchased our first house and was excited to see brand new matching Amana appliances; refrigerator / dishwasher / stove / microwave. We knew that these appliances weren't top of the line but expected much better quality than this. Within the first year the refrigerator started to freeze everything for about 2 weeks. We messed with the temperature adjustment, rearranged the food so vents weren't blocked... everything we could think of. After the two weeks of trying to figure out why things were freezing, the refrigerator stopped cooling and the freezer was only reaching 34 degrees. We contacted Amana regarding the factory warranty because this refrigerator was under a year old. We submitted a claim and was told Amana would locate a certified repair facility to diagnose the issue. Multiple days pass and we receive an email essentially stating, "We're very sorry but we can't find a certified facility to do the work, so it's up to you to find someone and we'll reimburse the cost of the visit". Living in a somewhat rural area (30 min from a big city with repair facilities), it is not easy to find a repair facility that will come out. The only repair facility Amana recommends in the area, apparently does not work on Amana appliances. We were left to deal with it on our own... Pretty poor customer service but we need a refrigerator so lets jump through this hoop. Finally, we find someone that will come out to diagnose the issue... "Ahh, finally we may have a working refrigerator soon". Tech comes out, does his diagnostic and determines that there is a sealed system leak (refrigerant leak) and recommends parts to replace. We submitted the invoice, just like Amana asked and waited... and waited... and waited... Eventually we get an email that says the invoice has been approved and we'll be receiving a prepaid card for the service invoice. We wait thinking we'll hear from an Amana representative about the next step. Days pass and no communication. Okay, time to call Amana again... I wait on hold for a customer care representative. Once on the phone with a representative I'm told that our invoice was approved and we'll be reimbursed for the service call. I explain I already knew that, I'm calling to figure out when and how the refrigerator is going to be fixed. I’m told that there weren’t part numbers on the invoice and they’re waiting for those. I asked if anyone was going to tell us that more information was needed to procced and am basically told “No” and that submitting information correctly was on us and the technician”. Keep in mind our original invoice was approved and we’re going to receive a prepaid card. Strike two on the customer service for Amana. I tell the representative that it is very difficult and time consuming to get someone out to our area since Amana could find anyone. I’m told “It’s not our problem that you live in a remote area”. I get off the phone, mind blown from the poor level of customer service but… I still need a refrigerator so I’ll jump through this hoop. The tech send over a parts list with the needed parts highlighted and we send that to Amana. Okay, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, we’ll have a refrigerator again soon! So we wait… and wait… no call or directions for proceed with the repair. I call Amana again, wait for a call back within the estimated time of 4 minutes. 15 minutes later I get a call back from a gentleman who seems helpful and show empathy so I’m starting to feel better about finally finishing this process. He states that Amana is waiting on an invoice with part numbers on it for the needed parts. I told him I already sent in the invoice and it was approved, we also sent over the needed parts list. The representative acknowledges that the invoice and part number were received and that he’s not quite sure why this isn’t getting handled. I sit on hold while a supervisor is questioned about what is going on. After holding for a while, the gentlemen gets back on the phone and tells me that even though the invoice was sent in and approved and a parts list was sent over that the repair facility needs to make another invoice with the part numbers on it. I ask, “can’t you just staple the parts list to the invoice that states what is needed?” Response, “No, the invoice needs to have the part numbers on it”. Another hoop to jump through… At this point I can’t stand behind Amana / Whirlpool products, their warranty is so convoluted that most consumers probably give up and Amana doesn’t have to warranty anything, their products fail within the first year and customer service is poor at best. I really hope Amana steps up and does what’s right… REPLACE THE REFRIGERATOR WITH A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. At this point I’d even spend time loading up the refrigerator, driving an hour to the store, exchanging it, driving back another hour and setting it up myself. If this product, with a manufacturer defect and under warranty isn’t replace, I will never purchase another Amana product or refer this brand to friends or family. I will gladly update this review if Amana does the right thing and takes care of their customer.
Loud and Too Cold

This fridge was loud from day 1. And I could never put it at Reccoended Temp because it was always too cold. After only 2 years it is malfunctioning so that it freezes everything at the warmest temp. The repair man says it is not worth fixing. What a waste of money and resources.
Because of the color stainless steele and black
