Blue vs white connection

We purchased a new filter at Home Depot we got it home it WOULD NOT fit. Went back to Home Depot exchanged that it, still wouldn’t work! The inner connection that was blue is now white (it’s to tight won’t go on). Went to Lowe’s they still had the blue one, bought both of them, work great. Fit on the very first try.
