The suction is at one end, opposite from the large burner on the cook-top. Doesn't seem as powerful as the old hood (also GE), but doesn't drip grease onto the cook-top as the old one did.

I reached out to GE product support and was told the paint was a flat or matter black, not gloss. Not thrilled at all but installed it because I basically had nothing running on the old hood. The lights look to be halogen. Really GE? You can't use LED like the rest of the country is moving towards? 2 Stars because of this.

Unit failed after 14 months (two past warranty) and estimated cost to fix was more than I paid originally. Was OK when it worked, but really wasn't as powerful as I had hoped. Would advise you to steer clear of this
