Napoleon Company History
|
Wolf Steel (Napoleon) cares about the environment in which we all live. Part of our commitment is to consider the overall impact of Napoleon and Continental products on that environment. Factors such as design, production and even recyclable materials are all important considerations in creating EcoGreen products. At Wolf Steel (Napoleon), we pride ourselves in paying close attention to these important factors. |
All Napoleon and Continental wood burning products are designed to meet EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) clean burning emission standards. The development of products which burn other alternate renewable fuels are continually being explored by our research and development team. Similarly, all of our gas burning products are designed to achieve the lowest emissions possible while providing a superior source of heat.

Wolf Steel ( Napoleon) was the first manufacturer to recognize and promote zone heating as a unique performance benefit that is provided by hearth products. Both non and renewable natural resources are better utilized by heating only the specific "occupied" area of the home.
Only recently recognized in the furnace industry, the value of multi-stage burners with low and high firing rates, was first recognized and incorporated by Wolf Steel as a gas fireplace design feature in 1993. This feature which is now employed by most gas fireplaces produced today, enables the operator to reduce heat (and fuel consumption) as varying temperatures dictate.

At Wolf Steel (Napoleon), part of our continuous improvement program has been to phase in environmentally friendly chemicals to the production process while phasing out the unfriendly ones. For example, the use of citrus based cleaner to degrease steel in place of mineral based cleaners. We also introduced natural binding agents as an alternative to silica in our fibre products. |
Over 95% of Napoleon and Continental fireplaces are made with materials
which can be recycled such as steel and glass. In addition, we use
recycled packaging materials, reusable containers and partner with suppliers who practice similar eco friendly philosophies.
From an overall "operations" viewpoint, an Environmental Improvement Committee was formed in late 2007 to review energy consumption throughout the company. Many conservation programs have been implemented or are under review such as: automatic motion sensor lighting for washrooms, skylights to reduce the dependence on overhead lighting coupled with reducing the overall number of lights, re-directing heat from curing ovens to circulate heated air throughout the building, substantial reductions in paper usage have been achieved by improving processing procedures, exhaust from various equipment (welding) is scrubbed and re-circulated within the building, eliminating the need for excessive outdoor make up air.

Wolf steel (Napoleon) manufactures EcoGreen products to provide our customers with the utmost in comfort and safety both in their homes and in the environment.
The first 'zone heating' advertising program was established several years ago promoting the energy savings related to 'zone heating' with hearth products, a cornerstone in our quest for educating the consumer in maximizing their heating needs while minimizing energy consumption.
